Wellness issues recall on canned cat foods that may contain low levels of thiamine 2/28/11 Thiamine is essential for cats. Symptoms of deficiency displayed by an affected cat can be gastrointestinal or neurological in nature. Early signs of thiamine deficiency may include decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting, and weight loss. In advanced cases, neurologic signs can develop, which may include ventriflexion (bending towards the floor) of the neck, wobbly walking, circling, falling, and seizures. Courtesy of the FDA

282 confirmed cases of Rabies in New Jersey in 2010 1/24/11 There were 19 rabid cats with 2 of them being among the 24 animals infected with Rabies in Burlington County. Burlington County ranked #2 in the state among Rabies infections in 2010 and was ranked #1 in 2009. Cats have represented 90% of the domestic animal Rabies infections since 1989. # cases were even identified in low-risk species (opossum, otter, and coyote) during 2010. Blue Buffalo Recall for Hypervitaminosis D Toxicosis 10/8/2010 Hypervitaminosis D Toxicosis is reportable to the State Veterinarian. Vitamin D toxicosis induces hypercalcemia and hyperphosphatemia, and if left untreated may result in damage to bones, soft tissue, and the kidneys. Current cases have been associated with a marked loss of appetite, polyuria, and polydipsia. All confirmed cases recovered after a change in diet.

When used according to label instructions and precautions, pet products can be very effective, but when misapplied or not used according to directions, your pets may be unnecessarily exposed to pesticides and could become ill.
